Taras Shevchenko’s poetry tells us of a tragic story of this young woman who as so many in the past, have been trodden on the same path.

Betrayed by her loved one who was responsible for making Katheryna an outcast, was full of false promises. Unable to bear the agony of singlehandedly raise her child, he finally pushed her to the brink of her death.

In this painting the artist challenges the legend and is trying to bring an altered end to the poem. Her Katheryna is gently rendered back from the other hostile world making her way to her child, through the purity of the snowflakes surrounded by the warmth, peace and serenity around.

The canvas is dominated by cheerful tones, penetrated by light, symbolizing the spiritualized atmosphere of the unity of human with nature. The sun shines for Katheryna and her child as for everyone… The artist thoroughly depicts that there is place for all, because God is Love.
