Ancient Ukrainians blessed with very creative imagination, believed that their place of natural surrounding was always inhabited by mystical eternal creatures, which can get along and animate with people, but may also trick them. The forest folks are likewise known to scare or destroy travelers. However amidst the forestry where Mavkas lives, the twist is different.
More colorful relations of this magical world were described in the 19th century by a famous Ukrainian writer; Lesya Ukrainka in her drama Lisova pisnya. The interaction of the love triangle, of mythical Mavka with human Lukash and this new bride ends tragically even though it was Lukash who had lured Mavka with melodies from his flute. Finally, all alone, she curls up, cold and lonely from her desperate love, and turns to the old tree woman who renders her care, allowing her roots to nest Mavka.
Despite her loyal mythical friends, who remain with her until the last moment, her love is robust to a point, that she seeks the help of Perelisnuk – the fire creature to free her soul from the piercing loneliness and despair, for never has there been an everlasting love between humans and fabled creatures.
